Good to know
- A Korean passport photo is 3.5 x 4.5 cm, with the head 3.2 to 3.6 cm from the top of the hair to the chin, on a white background.
- Residence card (ARC) applications use the same 3.5 x 4.5 cm size, but immigration asks for the head to be 2.5 to 3.5 cm from the top of the hair to the chin, and for both ears to show.
- Use a photo taken in the last 6 months, with no hat, a neutral face and your whole face clearly visible. For a residence card, both ears also need to show.
- The tool crops and resizes only. It does not change the background or your face, so start with a well-lit photo against a white wall.
- Your photo stays on your device while you work.
Korean photo sizes
Passport applications and the residence card (외국인등록증) at the immigration office both use the passport size, 3.5 cm wide and 4.5 cm tall.
If a resume or form asks for a 반명함 photo, that is the smaller 3 x 4 cm size. Check the size the form names.
The download is 300 dpi, so it prints at the right size. Print the 4 x 6 inch sheet as a 4 x 6 inch photo at a photo shop or photo kiosk, then cut the photos out.
Questions
What size is a Korean passport photo?
3.5 cm wide and 4.5 cm tall, with the head 3.2 to 3.6 cm from the top of the hair to the chin, on a white background.
What photo do I need for an ARC (residence card)?
A 3.5 x 4.5 cm photo on a white background, taken in the last 6 months. Immigration also asks for both ears to show, and for the head to be 2.5 to 3.5 cm from the top of the hair to the chin.
Can I print the photo myself?
Yes. Download the 4 x 6 inch sheet and print it as a 4 x 6 inch photo, at 100% size. Then cut along the grey lines.
Will the office accept my photo?
The size matches the standard. Offices also check the lighting, the background and your expression, so use even light and a plain white wall. If that is hard at home, a photo studio is the safer choice.
