How to convert HWP to PDF

  1. 1Choose your .hwp file, or drop it on the box above.
  2. 2Check the preview, then select Convert to PDF.
  3. 3The PDF saves to your downloads folder.

What carries over

  • Page size, margins, tables, images and page breaks follow the original.
  • Each character sits where Hangul places it, and the text stays real text that you can search and copy.
  • The PDF uses Nanum Myeongjo and Nanum Gothic in place of Hancom fonts. They look close to the originals.

What is an HWP file?

HWP is the file format of Hangul (한글), the word processor made by Hancom. Korean government offices use it widely, so you will see it in forms, notices and application packs.

HWPX is the newer version of the format. It keeps the document as XML files inside a ZIP archive, and it is a Korean national standard (KS X 6101).

This tool reads both formats in your browser, so you do not need to install Hangul.

Your file stays on your device

The page loads the converter into your browser, and your browser does the work. Your file is not sent to Seoulstart or to anyone else.

We count when a file is opened or converted, its file types, page count and size, and how long the conversion took. We do not see file names or what is inside your files.

Questions

Will the PDF look the same as the HWP file?

The layout matches: page size, line breaks, tables and images stay where they were. Only the font faces change to Nanum Myeongjo and Nanum Gothic.

How long does it take?

A short document takes a few seconds. A long report with many pages can take longer, especially on a phone.

Can I convert HWPX to PDF too?

Yes. Choose an .hwpx file and select Convert to PDF.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser on your own device. Seoulstart does not receive your file or its contents.

Is this free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files.

Which files does it open?

HWP files from Hangul 2002 and later (the HWP 5.0 format), HWPX files, PDF files and Word .docx files. Files from Hangul 97 and earlier (HWP 3 and older formats) do not open yet.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. It works in current versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox on phones and computers. Large files take longer on a phone.

The converter runs on rhwp, an open-source HWP engine (MIT License). PDFs use the Nanum Myeongjo and Nanum Gothic fonts (SIL Open Font License). rhwp · Nanum
