Five days of fried chicken (chi) and beer (mac) at Duryu Park in Daegu. The festival that made chimaek a Korean cultural export.
Daegu is the historical center of Korea's fried-chicken industry, Mexicana, Kyochon, and Pelicana all started here. The festival pulls together hundreds of chimac vendors at Duryu Park with live music, beer gardens, and a pace that runs from afternoon family hours into late-night party energy.
From Seoul: 1.5 hours by KTX to Dongdaegu, then 30 minutes by metro line 2 to Duryu Station. The festival is in Duryu Park, walkable from the station.
Bring cash plus a card, different vendors have different setups. July in Daegu is among the hottest summers in Korea; festival areas have shade tents but the walk can be brutal. Evenings are the comfortable hours.
