Why this tool takes measurements, not a US size

Most size converters promise to turn a US medium into a Korean size. This one does not, and the reason is worth two minutes of your time.

Korea's clothing sizes come from two national standards published by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (국가기술표준원): KS K 0051:2025 for adult women's apparel and KS K 0050:2025 for adult men's apparel. Both were amended on 17 September 2025. Both define a size the same way: as a set of body measurements in centimetres, joined with dashes and printed without a unit. Neither contains a table mapping those figures to a US, UK or EU label. So a converter that offers one is quoting somebody's convention, not the standard.

What the standards do give you is precise, and that is what this tool returns: the exact designation for the garment you are buying, and the body measurements behind it, so you can hold it against the centimetre figures a listing states.

The label shape changes with the garment

This is the part that surprises people. There is no single Korean sizing system. The standard assigns a different label shape to each garment category, based on which body measurements actually control the fit.

• A tailored jacket or formal dress carries three numbers: bust, hip and height, as in 82-88-160.
• Tailored trousers and skirts carry two: waist then hip, as in 70-91.
• A casual jacket or coat carries bust then height, as in 90-160.
• A shirt or knitted top carries one number, the bust or chest circumference, as in 85.
• Casual trousers carry one number, the waist circumference.

That is why the tool asks what you are sizing before it asks anything about your body. Pick the wrong category and the number you get will be a real designation for a different kind of garment.

Letter sizes are in the standard too

Letter sizes are not a shortcut somebody invented for online listings. Both standards define them, as ranges rather than exact figures, and pair them with a height code. The women's tables run S to XL with P for petite, R for regular and T for tall; the men's letter table carries M, L and XL with R and T only. The height code goes in parentheses after the letter, and the regular code may be dropped, which is why you see both M and M(R). Where a letter table covers your garment category, the tool shows it next to the numeric designation.

Shoes: millimetres, and nothing else

Korean footwear sizing follows KS M ISO9407:2019, the Mondopoint system (몬도포인트), whose current edition was confirmed on 31 December 2024 and is identical to the international standard ISO 9407:2019. Under it, foot length is the primary sizing characteristic, measured in millimetres and expressed as a whole number. Straight width of the foot (발의 직선 폭) is the secondary characteristic, in the same units. The standard's marking rule calls for the millimetre figure to carry an MP or Mondo prefix.

The standard carries no chart converting millimetres to US, UK or EU sizes. For that it cites a separate international document, ISO/TS 19407, which Korea has not adopted as a Korean Industrial Standard. So neither Korean shoe sizing standard carries one, and this tool does not print one.

If your measurements land between rows

The tables list specific values, not a continuous scale. When your figures do not land on a listed row, the tool says so and shows the neighbouring rows with the gap in centimetres, rather than rounding you into one. Two people with the same bust can need different rows once hip and height are in play, so seeing the neighbours is more useful than a single confident answer.
