About this festival
Sejong City, named for the king who commissioned Hangul in the 15th century, hosts this festival each October around Hangul Proclamation Day (October 9). The 2026 edition at Sejong Lake Park and Central Park combines Hangul-themed art installations, science and technology exhibits reflecting the city's identity as Korea's planned administrative capital, and outdoor performances. As a newly designated MCST festival, this is among the fastest-growing autumn events in the Chungcheong region.
Getting there
Take the KTX from Seoul to Osong Station (about 50 minutes), then a local bus or taxi to Sejong City centre (about 20 minutes). BRT buses from Daejeon City connect to Sejong in about 30 minutes. By car from Seoul it is about 1 hour 30 minutes via Expressway 1.
Tips
The festival centres on Hangul Day, a national holiday, meaning transport and accommodation book up. Sejong Lake Park is a well-designed public space pleasant to walk year-round. The festival has English-language signage at major installations. If you are studying Korean, this is an unusually good opportunity to engage with the script in a festive context.
