Muju Firefly Festival

무주반딧불축제

Late-summer festival celebrating Muju's protected firefly populations, one of the few places in Korea where wild fireflies still appear in numbers.

September 4 – 12, 2026Muju, North Jeolla

About this festival

Muju, in the Sobaek Mountains, has been a Natural Monument firefly habitat since 1982. The festival pairs guided night-walks through firefly habitat zones with daytime ecology programs, river games, and Muju's mountain food. Quieter and more nature-focused than the big-name festivals.

Getting there

From Seoul: 3 hours by intercity bus from Seoul Express Bus Terminal to Muju. The festival is in central Muju, with shuttle buses from the bus terminal during the festival.

Tips

The firefly walks are the must-do, bookable on-site or via the festival site, English signage limited. Bring mosquito repellent and a flashlight. Pair with Muju Deogyusan National Park for hiking.
