Can you do this on your visa?

F-2 / F-4 / F-5 / F-6: open work rights, no permission needed. E-1 to E-7: concurrent-employment permit required from Immigration and your employer. D-2 / D-4 students: Part-Time Employment Permit (S-3), 20 hr/week cap. D-10 / D-8: case by case. Remote work paid in USD to a foreign account is a genuine grey area; default to the cautious read until you confirm with HiKorea.

Korean tax on USD remote income

In your first 5 years of Korean residence, foreign-source income is only taxed in Korea to the extent you remit it into Korea. Keep USD in a foreign account during the exemption window and you often owe nothing in Korea on it. After year 5, you’re taxed on worldwide income. Full tax guide.

Platforms we deliberately do not cover

Platforms below have a real product but no public per-project listing index, so we cannot give you the same quality of information about specific roles. Most have a sign-up flow you can find directly on their site.

DataAnnotation, Surge AI, Handshake AI Fellowship, Invisible Technologies. Each runs a sign-up + assessment + matching model with no public per-project listings. We publish honest reviews of several of these platforms: DataAnnotation, Outlier, Alignerr, Mercor, Mindrift, OneForma, and Welocalize.

TELUS International AI. Has real openings, but the jobs portal is behind Cloudflare bot protection, so we cannot enumerate them automatically.

Appen. Was a tier-1 platform until pay cuts in 2023-2024 and major contract losses. Community reputation has not recovered.

Remotasks. Outlier’s predecessor brand. Scale AI funneled the contributor side into Outlier; Remotasks is effectively defunct.

Toloka (Yandex-origin). Russia-origin payment infrastructure makes payout to Korean residents friction-heavy or impossible depending on sanctions exposure.

Clickworker. Microtask platform. Pay rates are too low to recommend as AI training income.

Lionbridge. Folded into TELUS International AI.
