What this actually is

You bring your specialist expertise to AI evaluation. The shape of the work varies but the pattern is the same: review outputs, rate quality, write prompts, flag errors. The platform title (CAD Design Expert (Instructor)) reflects the rate band and the expertise required, not the day-to-day work.

Can you do this on your visa?

F-2 / F-4 / F-5 / F-6: open. E-1 to E-7: needs concurrent-employment permit. D-2 / D-4 students: S-3 permit, 20 hr/week cap. D-10 / D-8: case by case.

Role Title: CAD Design Expert (Instructor)

Role Type: Contractor/Part-time commitment of at least 10 hours per week, ideally 15-20 hours.

Location: Remote

micro1 is looking for experienced Mechanical Design Engineers and CAD Experts to contribute to an AI training project focused on complex mechanical assemblies. You'll use your practical CAD and mechanical design expertise to create challenging technical questions, analyze how mechanical components fit and move together, and help AI models develop a better understanding of real-world engineering.

What You'll Do

• Analyze complex 3D CAD assemblies, including how components fit together, move, and interact.

• Create challenging, technically accurate questions about mechanical assemblies, with clear and verifiable answers.

• Apply your understanding of joints, mates, constraints, degrees of freedom, clearances, and tolerances to solve assembly-related problems.

• Explain the engineering reasoning behind your answers in a clear, structured way.

• Review and validate technical questions and solutions to ensure accuracy and consistency.

• Collaborate remotely with the project team and incorporate feedback to improve the quality of AI training materials.

What We're Looking For

• Ideally 5+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience, particularly with complex, multi-part CAD assemblies.

• Strong proficiency in at least one parametric CAD tool, such as SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, Siemens NX, Inventor, Fusion 360, Onshape, or Solid Edge.

• Practical experience designing mechanical systems with moving components, such as machinery, robotics, automation equipment, automotive mechanisms, or electromechanical products.

• Good understanding of assembly constraints, mechanical motion, component interactions, tolerances, and design intent.

• Ability to explain complex mechanical concepts clearly in written and spoken English.

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to develop precise, technically correct solutions.

Nice to Have

• Experience with FreeCAD.

• Experience teaching, mentoring, or reviewing mechanical design work.

• Professional CAD certifications, such as CSWP or CSWE.

• Experience developing technical exercises, engineering assessments, or educational materials.
