ABOUT AIRWALLEX

Airwallex is the AI-native financial operating system for a real-time, intelligent economy. More than 675,000 businesses, including McLaren Racing, Qantas, SHEIN, and TikTok, use us, directly or through our platform partners, to run their financial operations or build and monetize financial products of their own.

We started in Melbourne in 2015 to build the infrastructure global commerce runs on. We're the regulated backbone behind global payments: not by accident, but by design. A decade plus, 85+ licenses, and a financial infrastructure spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.

We're co-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore, with more than 2,300 people across 27 offices. We hire builders with founder-level energy, people who move fast with good judgment, dig in with real curiosity, and make calls from first principles rather than waiting to be told what to do. ABOUT THE TEAM

The Global Treasury and Payment Network (GTPN) team sits at the core of Airwallex’s payment infrastructure. As Airwallex’s very first product and still the largest revenue driver across the company, GTPN underpins many of our most critical customer experiences. We operate at the intersection of traditional and modern finance, expanding the reach of our global treasury and payment network, strengthening its capabilities and reliability, and delivering innovative payment products built on a robust financial foundation.

GTPN is a truly global, cross-site engineering organization, with talented engineers in existing and emerging hubs such as the US, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. As we continue to scale worldwide, we’re looking for passionate Senior Software Engineers to join us. You’ll collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers across regions to build and enhance products that not only meet but exceed our customers’ expectations.

Why Join Us

Be Part of Something Big: Join a team that's redefining the future of finance. Your work will have a direct impact on our mission to revolutionize financial services and help millions of businesses grow globally.
Grow With Us: At Airwallex, we're committed to your professional development. You'll have opportunities to learn, grow, and shape your career path in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Collaborate With the Best: Work with a team of talented and passionate individuals who are driven by the desire to create something extraordinary.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Architect distributed payment systems at global scale: Design and evolve the core infrastructure spanning real-time local clearing, SWIFT, and proprietary treasury routing across 150+ countries.
Solve hard financial integrity problems: Build idempotent, fault-tolerant systems that handle multi-currency reconciliation, async settlement, and compensation logic across unreliable banking partners.
Own reliability and observability of the payment network: Define SLAs, design for graceful degradation during partner outages, and build the observability layer that surfaces payment health in real time.
Use data to drive platform decisions: Leverage payment telemetry to optimise routing, identify bottlenecks, and measure the impact of infrastructure changes on settlement speed and conversion.
Contribute to technical direction across a global team: Drive design reviews and RFC processes for platform-wide changes, collaborating across engineering hubs in the US, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.

WHO YOU ARE

We are looking for staff engineers with deep technical expertise and a strong track record of impact as a tech lead.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experienced and Technically Proficient: You possess a wealth of experience in system architecturing and software development, with 7+ years working in modern engineering practices focused on continuous innovation and high-quality engineering.
A Technical and Talent Bar Raiser: You set high standards and lead by example, elevating the capabilities of those around you.
Empathetic and Insightful: Your deep empathy for customer needs drives your development process, allowing you to create intuitive and impactful products. This understanding is not just about meeting requirements, but enriching user experiences.
Data-Driven and Analytical: You view data as a narrative element of development, a critical tool that informs your decision-making process. Your ability to interpret data enhances product performance and elevates user satisfaction, making you a pivotal member of our team.
Collaborative and Knowledge-Sharing: True collaboration is second nature to you. You thrive in team settings and are committed to sharing knowledge and ideas, which you see as vital to fostering innovation. Your role as a coach involves mentoring peers and promoting a learning culture within the team.
Adaptable and Continuously Learning: In the fast-paced world of fintech, you stand out for your agility and eagerness to adopt new skills and technologies. Challenges are opportunities for growth, and you are always prepared to expand your horizons.
Proactive and Ownership-Driven: You are self-motivated and take initiative, demonstrating a strong sense of ownership in your projects. Your proactive approach ensures that you are always ahead of the curve, ready to take on responsibilities and lead projects to successful outcomes.
A Highly Experienced and Inspirational Leader: You have successfully led a highly effective team that thrives in a dynamic and fast-paced environment previously. Your outstanding leadership and motivational abilities will be invaluable in mentoring the team, fostering a culture of innovation, and promoting technical excellence within the organization.
Efficient and Prioritization-Savvy: You excel at prioritizing tasks, which enables you to manage your workload effectively while maintaining high standards of quality. This skill ensures that critical project components receive the attention they need without sacrificing overall progress.
