Yes, TELUS Digital is a real company. The Canadian telecom group TELUS owns 100% of it. The open questions for a foreign resident in Korea are different: some Korean postings ask for several years of residence, contributors report unpaid assessments and too few tasks, and we could not confirm which entity pays you or how Korean tax applies.
This guide separates what the company says about itself from what contributors report.
What we could and could not read
TELUS Digital's contributor pages and job board are behind bot protection, so our tools could not read them. We read the corporate newsroom, the About page, the Data for AI Training product page, the contributor privacy notice, and SEC filings.
For posting details, we read copies of postings on third-party job sites, which this guide calls mirrors. A mirror is not TELUS's own page. Every posting detail below is listing text seen on a mirror on October 17, 2026. Check it on the official TELUS Digital job board before you rely on it.
Who runs TELUS Digital
TELUS Digital was called TELUS International until its rebrand, announced on June 13, 2024 and launched on September 18, 2024. TELUS Corporation, a Canadian telecom company, completed the purchase of the remaining shares on October 31, 2025. TELUS now owns 100% of TELUS Digital. Before that deal, TELUS Digital was a separate listed company controlled by TELUS.
The company's last annual report lists its principal executive offices in Vancouver, Canada. TELUS Digital describes its business as digital customer experiences and digital transformation work.
The AI Community is the part that matters for raters. It traces back to Lionbridge AI, a data annotation business that TELUS International acquired in a deal that closed on December 31, 2020. TELUS Digital's About page confirms the 2020 acquisition. A filing dated March 2, 2021 describes Lionbridge AI as a provider of data annotation for text, images, video, and audio.
TELUS Digital's last annual report describes an AI community of one million contributors in more than 118 countries. Its product page also claims many languages and fields of expertise. Those are the company's own figures and are not audited.
What the work is
TELUS Digital lists several kinds of AI-data work: data collection, annotation, ads rating, AI search evaluation, and expert domain work. For Korean speakers, the postings we found involved rating ads and search results in Korean, and similar assessor roles.
The work is project-based and freelance. A Korean posting described the role as a freelance, independent contractor position. An English posting said pay is based on tasks completed and project availability. That means no guaranteed hours.
Can foreign residents in Korea join?
Korean-language postings have appeared through a Korean entity. The contributor privacy notice lists TELUS International AI Korea Co., Ltd. among the entities that can engage contributors. A Korean job site showed the employer as 텔루스인터내셔널에이아이코리아 (TELUS International AI Korea).
Check the residency line before you spend time on an assessment. A Korean Ads Assessor posting, since closed, asked applicants to have lived in Korea for the last 3 consecutive years. Another mirror of a sibling posting read 5 consecutive years. The three readings do not agree, and the 5-year reading is a different posting. The same mirror also warned that applicants living abroad are likely to be rejected at the document stage.
So a foreign resident who arrived under 3 years ago may be screened out of some postings. This is one posting type, not a rule for every TELUS role. The pages we read do not say whether TELUS accepts people who are not Korean nationals for Korean-language projects.
Both Jobploy mirrors showed their postings as closed. The Excelsior mirror listed the Ads Assessor posting with an expiry date of January 16, 2027, so it may still be open. Check the official TELUS Digital job board.
How onboarding works
An English posting for the US program described three steps: a language assessment, an open-book qualification exam, and an identity verification process. It also said the exam has a time limit but can be completed at your convenience, and that one member per household can participate. That last rule came from a US posting and may not apply in Korea.
A Korean posting also described a language assessment and an open-book exam. It said random language checks by video or phone may occur during the project. Two mirrors list ID verification as a step and a third does not mention it, so confirm it in the official posting.
Pay and payment
TELUS does not publish a rate card on the pages we could read. A Korean Ads Assessor posting listed an estimated 15 USD per hour, and also said pay is decided after an interview. That posting was closed when we read it. Treat the number as one posted estimate on one project, not a rate you can expect. Do not carry a figure from one country or role to another.
Pay depends on completed tasks and project availability.
We could not find an official TELUS list of payment methods, payout timing, or a minimum payout. TELUS's job and contributor pages blocked our tools. Check them inside your contributor account before you start work. Do not rely on a third-party blog for them.
What contributors report
On October 17, 2026, Trustpilot showed TELUS International at 1.2 out of 5 from 305 reviews, with 68 in the previous 12 months. Of all reviews, 88% were one star. Trustpilot's AI summary leads with unpaid work and unhelpful support. Individual contributor reviews describe these themes:
- Repeated assessments and onboarding work that was unpaid.
- Too few tasks to reach a minimum number of hours. One reviewer mentioned a 10-hour minimum. We could not confirm that from any TELUS source, so do not assume TELUS guarantees hours.
- Suspensions and removals without a clear reason.
- Rejection after assessments and ID verification, with no feedback.
- Unpaid balances and slow support.
A smaller group of reviewers reported an easy application and decent past projects.
Read these as sentiment, not as fact. Trustpilot reviews are self-selected, and the site does not verify each claim. A separate Trustpilot page for telusdigital.com had only 4 reviews, which is too few to use. We could not read Glassdoor or Reddit.
Scam and impersonation warning
We did not find an official TELUS Digital recruitment-fraud page. Fake recruiters impersonate real companies, so run these checks on any rating platform:
- Apply only through the official TELUS Digital job board.
- Do not pay a fee for training, a background check, or equipment.
- Be careful with any interview that moves to Telegram or WhatsApp. A community poster on TELUS's customer forum described Telegram interview scams that used a real TELUS staff member's name. That post is not an official TELUS statement.
- Check the sender's email domain against the official TELUS Digital website before you share an ID document or bank details.
Korean tax: ask who pays you first
Most platform reviews in this series rely on the 5-year rule. Under the Income Tax Act (소득세법), a foreign resident with 5 years or less of domicile or residence in Korea over the prior 10 years is taxed on foreign-source income only to the extent it is paid in Korea or remitted into Korea.
TELUS Digital may not fit that pattern. The Korean postings run through a Korean legal entity. If a Korean entity pays you, the foreign-source rule may not apply. Korean payers also generally withhold 3.3% from freelance service pay (3% income tax plus 0.3% local income tax), per the National Tax Service.
We do not know which TELUS entity contracts with and pays Korea-based contributors, or whether it withholds tax. Work you do while living in Korea may also count as Korea-source income whoever pays. We did not find a source that settles this, so confirm it with the National Tax Service. Before you accept an offer, ask:
- Which legal entity signs my contract?
- Which entity pays me, and in which currency?
- Does the payer withhold Korean tax?
If tax is withheld, read our freelancer 3.3% refund guide. It explains how to claim back withholding that exceeds your final tax. For most freelancers, the comprehensive income tax filing window runs from May 1 to May 31 of the following year. Confirm your own case with the National Tax Service or a tax professional.
Can you do this on your Korean visa?
This is general context, not legal advice.
- F-2, F-4, F-5, F-6: Our other platform reviews treat these as the lowest-risk group. We did not find a government page that states this for platform work, so confirm with 1345.
- E-1 to E-7: Work outside your visa's activity needs an activity-outside-status permit (체류자격외 활동허가) from Immigration before you start. The cautious read is that this work counts.
- E-9: Easy Law says activity outside your status is in principle not allowed.
- D-2, D-4: You must get an activity-outside-status permit (체류자격외 활동허가) before any paid work. The easylaw.go.kr page describes this permit requirement for foreign students.
- D-10, D-8, and others: Call 1345 and describe your situation before you accept paid work.
Call the Immigration Contact Center (1345) and describe the exact work and the paying entity before you accept.
Should you apply?
TELUS Digital can be worth a look if:
- A current Korean posting on the official job board matches your language and your years of residence in Korea.
- You can confirm the contracting entity and the payment details in writing before you start.
- You treat it as one of several income sources, because hours are not guaranteed.
Look elsewhere first if:
- You need steady, predictable income. Reviewers often report unpaid assessments and too few tasks.
- You arrived in Korea recently and the posting asks for several years of residence.
- You are on a student or employment visa and have not yet checked your work permission.

FAQ
Is TELUS Digital legit?
The company is real. TELUS Digital is the digital and AI-data arm of TELUS Corporation in Canada, and TELUS has owned 100% of it since October 31, 2025. Contributor sentiment is a separate question: many Trustpilot reviewers report unpaid assessments, and some report too few tasks and removals without explanation.
Is TELUS Digital the same as TELUS International?
Yes. TELUS International announced its rebrand on June 13, 2024 and launched the new name, TELUS Digital Experience (TELUS Digital), on September 18, 2024. Some contributor-facing pages and review sites still use the older name.
Can I apply to TELUS Digital from Korea?
A Korean job site listed Korean-language postings under a Korean entity, TELUS International AI Korea Co., Ltd. A mirrored Korean posting asked for several consecutive years of residence in Korea. Read the location and residency line in each posting, and apply only through the official TELUS Digital job board.
How much does TELUS Digital pay Korean raters?
TELUS does not publish a rate card on the pages we could read. A mirrored Korean Ads Assessor posting listed an estimated hourly figure but also said pay is decided after an interview. Treat any figure as a posted estimate on one project, not a promise. Pay is tied to completed tasks and project availability.
How does TELUS Digital pay contributors?
We could not read an official TELUS page on payment methods or payout timing. Check payment methods, the payout schedule, and any minimum payout inside your contributor account before you start work.
Do I owe Korean tax on TELUS Digital income?
It depends on which entity pays you. If a Korean entity pays you, Korean payers generally withhold 3.3% from freelance pay, and the 5-year rule for foreign-source income may not apply. Ask the contracting entity who pays you and whether Korean tax is withheld. Then confirm with the National Tax Service or a tax professional.
Can I do TELUS Digital work on a student visa?
On a D-2 or D-4 visa you must get an activity-outside-status permit (체류자격외 활동허가) before any paid work. Call the Immigration Contact Center (1345) with the exact work and the paying entity before you accept.
How do I spot a fake TELUS recruiter?
Apply only through the official TELUS Digital job board. Do not pay a fee for training, a background check, or equipment to apply. Be careful with any interview that moves to Telegram or WhatsApp. On TELUS's customer forum, a community member described a Telegram interview scam that used a real TELUS staff member's name.
