About this festival
Miryang Arirang has a more upbeat melody and distinct lyrics compared to other Arirang traditions, rooted in the region's history. The festival's signature event, Miryanggang Odyssey, transforms Yeongnamnu Pavilion and the river into a large-scale light-and-sound canvas after dark, drawing crowds who line the riverbank. Daytime programmes include traditional music contests, folk games, and market stalls along the riverside promenade. The 68th edition in 2026 runs May 7 to 10, continuing one of Korea's longest-running local festival traditions.
Getting there
Take the KTX from Seoul to Miryang Station (about 2 hours 30 minutes on the Gyeongbu line toward Busan). The festival site at Yeongnamnu Pavilion is about 10 minutes by taxi from Miryang Station. Regular intercity buses also connect Busan (1 hour) and Daegu (50 minutes) to Miryang.
Tips
The night show is the headline event and usually begins around 8 PM on main festival nights. Bring something to sit on along the riverbank for a comfortable viewing spot. Miryang is compact and easy to explore on foot; Yeongnamnu Pavilion itself is free to visit year-round.
