About this festival
Chuncheon's Mime Festival has been running since 1989 and is recognised alongside France's Mimos and the London International Mime Festival as one of the three leading events for the form. The festival extends well beyond traditional mime to encompass physical theatre, dance-theatre, and immersive street performance, filling Uiamho Lake Park and Chuncheon's plazas with unexpected encounters. With no language barrier by definition, this is one of the most accessible major performing arts events in Korea for international visitors.
Getting there
Take the ITX-Cheongchun express train from Seoul Yongsan Station to Chuncheon Station (about 1 hour 10 minutes). Festival venues are spread across Myeongdong, Chuncheon Station plaza, and Uiamho Lake Park, all reachable by local bus or taxi. Driving from Seoul takes about 1 hour via Expressway 60.
Tips
Many street performances are free; indoor ticketed shows (around 10,000 to 20,000 won) can be booked at the venue box office on the day. Chuncheon is famous for dakgalbi (spicy stir-fried chicken), making the Myeongdong food street an excellent post-show option. Late May in Chuncheon can be rainy, so a compact umbrella is useful.
